MHS Club Information
Beta Club
Sponsors: J. Schorr and M. Guhy
National Honorary Beta Club is the nation's largest independent, non-profit, educational youth organization. The mission statement of the organization is to promote the ideals of student achievement, character, leadership, and service. Students qualify to be inducted into Senior (high school) Beta Club after their freshman year is completed if they have achieved a 3.5 or higher GPA. Students must maintain a cumulative 3.5 GPA throughout high school in order to remain active. Members of the Beta Club are recognized at graduation by wearing a gold tassel with their cap and gown.
As part of the Beta Club, students are offered the opportunity to participate in school and community service projects. Our club representatives help the school by serving as guides during the annual parent Open House. Through hosting an annual American Red Cross blood drive, we support the community by recruiting blood donors and volunteering during the drive. Other community service opportunities include supporting the Adopt-A-Highway campaign and local Humane Society.
Book Club
Sponsor: J. Schorr
The book club provides opportunities for pleasure reading outside of the classroom. We have no service projects or activities other than our meetings where we discuss the book of the month and we enjoy refreshments. Book titles are announced in advance and students pay a nominal fee for the book. We have no officers.
Cultural Diversity Club

Mission
This organization fosters tolerance of students of all backgrounds. We also attempt to broaden students’ intellectual horizons by taking them on a trip each year to an historic sites associated with the diversity of American Culture. We hope these experiences help them to know more about America’s history and to appreciate the sacrifices so many have made for our country and the rights and freedoms of all individuals.

Drama
Sponsor: LINKS Program
- Mission Statement/Purpose – Mayfield High School Drama club exists to give students an opportunity to participate in supervised creative dramatic activities including a spring play production.
- Goals/Objectives of the club -- Students will be exposed to different aspects of theater including impromptu skits, vocal music, costume design, set design, props and technical elements of drama like lights and sound. The club is not for actors only! The drama club needs students who are interested in set, costume and sound design, as well as those who want to work on props, publicity, tickets, and stage management. The club encourages creativity, self- expression, teamwork, leadership and social networking. Drama builds confidence and provides students with enriched learning experiences in the area of performing arts.
- Activities: Performing bus safety and Christmas plays for the elementary school when requested, field trips to attend workshops to learn about costumes, acting and makeup, an evening Christmas production (every other year) and a spring play.
FBLA

Mission Statement
FBLA-PBL’s mission is to bring business and education together in a positive working relationship through innovative leadership and career development programs.
Goals
- Develop competent, aggressive business leadership.
- Strengthen the confidence of students in themselves and their work.
- Create more interest in and understanding of American business enterprise.
- Encourage members in the development of individual projects that contribute to the improvement of home, business, and community.
- Develop character, prepare for useful citizenship, and foster patriotism.
- Encourage and practice efficient money management.
- Encourage scholarship and promote school loyalty.
- Assist students in the establishment of occupational goals.
- Facilitate the transition from school to work.
FBLA-PBL’s programs focus on:
- Leadership Development—members develop essential soft skills by holding chapter officer positions at the local, state, and national levels; by networking with accomplished business professionals; and by participating in business-focused workshops, seminars, and academic competitions. Our chapter has attended career/leadership activities with the Nashville Predators at Bridgestone Arena and the Memphis Grizzlies at the FedExForum.
- Academic Competitions—members demonstrate their business expertise at high-profile regional, state, and national competitive events. The top students are recognized with trophies and cash awards. The regional competitions are held at Murray State University in early March. The state competition is held in April or May in Louisville, KY. National competitions are held in June and varies in locations from Nashville, TN; Anaheim, CA; Denver, CO; Orlando, FL; Baltimore, MD; and San Antonio, TX.
- Educational Programs—members create career portfolios, enhance their knowledge with world-recognized skills certifications, and have access to select college scholarships
- Community Service—members work with the March of Dimes to help end premature births by participating in awareness campaigns and the March for Babies fundraiser. We hold our annual walkathon at the end of September or Beginning of October. Other programs we have been involved with has been adopting a grandparent, sending cards to the nursing homes, helping with the Fall Festival at the elementary school, and handing out candy and setting up activity booths for the city Halloween celebrations.
FCA

Fellowship of Christian Athletes, also known simply as FCA, is a student-led Christian organization that seeks to present athletes, non-athletes, and all they influence with the challenge and adventure of receiving Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord. All MHS students are encouraged to attend. You do NOT have to be in athletics or even an athlete to participate! ALL are invited, and ALL are welcome! There is no official membership in FCA, so feel free to come and go as you please! We meet on Wednesdays--during CC time--in Ms. Vanessa Fisher's room. We hope to see you there!

How to join
If you are interested in leadership opportunities, making new friends, getting involved in community service and you are enrolled in a Family and Consumer Science class or have had one in the past, then you might be interested in FCCLA. FCCLA stands for Family, Career and Community Leaders of America and is a National Organization committed to instilling leadership skills in today’s youth to prepare them for tomorrow.
The dues for are $15 for New Members and $13 for Returning Members. For more information see Mrs. Lynne Fisher in room 229.
Foreign Language Club
Sponsors: Scarbrough and Godinez
Mission Statement/Purpose: The purpose of the Foreign language Club is to recognize the diversity of the faculty and the student body of Mayfield High School by promoting other cultures.
Goals/Objectives: The goals and objectives of the club is to raise money for various community projects and to experience other cultures through various activities and programs.
Activities: Guest Speakers from various community members, International Day at Murray State University, International Food Night at Mayfield High School, Celebrations of Day of the Dead and Mardi Gras, Signage in multi languages posted around the school, Movie Night with subtitles,
Community Service Projects: Blood Drive Sponsor, Can Drive for Need Line during the winter, Support Foreign Exchange Students throughout the year, Multicultural Flags for the Commons area.
Interact
Sponsor: Rickman
Interact is Rotary International’s service club for young people ages 12 to 18. Our club is sponsored by the Mayfield Rotary club, which provides support and guidance, and offers several opportunities for us to serve in the community with them!
Each year, the Interact club completes at least three community service projects, two that benefit the community of Mayfield and one which furthers international understanding and goodwill. Through these efforts, Interactors develop a network of friendships with local and overseas clubs and learn the importance of:
- Developing leadership skills and personal integrity
- Demonstrating helpfulness and respect for others
- Understanding the value of individual responsibility and hard work
- Advancing international understanding and goodwill
Serving (and eating) pancakes at the Jeff Green Memorial Pancake Breakfast, ringing in the Christmas Season with the Salvation Army and other events that help our community are all part of the excitement of the Interact Club!
KEY CLUB
Sponsor: Rodgers
Purpose : The Key Club is a high school affiliate of the International Kiwanis Club whose purpose is to serve youth and the elderly. Through Kiwanis, individuals can give of themselves – their experiences, knowledge, time and love – to those who need them the most, and form friendships with fellow citizens.
Goals/Objectives : The goals and objectives of the Key Club are the same as those of the International Kiwanis Club.
Activities: The Key Club meets on the monthly schedule set by the school and is involved in both community and school based service projects. The club is involved with providing financial help to MHS students (purchasing of yearbooks and paying fees for graduation requirements such as caps and gowns, and rental for prom needs). Each year the club members assist in the deliverance of coats for every student in the MES Headstart Program. These coats are purchased by the Kiwanis Club and are partially paid for from proceeds from their annual pancake breakfast where MHS club members assist the Kiwanis members. The Key Club also sponsors a food drive for the local food pantry, assists in cleanup of the local Kiwanis Park, and also provides holiday greetings for a local assisted living facility.
LEO Club

Sponsored by the Mayfield Lions Club, the Mayfield High School Leo Club is a community service organization whose members will serve as positive agents of change in our local community with statewide, national, and international opportunities. Through Leadership,Experience, and Opportunity, the Leo Club will work closely with the Mayfield Lions Club in their mission of "We Serve" while still having fun.
Pep Club
Sponsor: Isbell
Purpose: To provide an opportunity for students to support each other in a positive manner and sporting events and other school activities.
Goal: To increase a sense of community and unity in the school.
Activities:
- Create themes for ball games and events
- Get more students involved and increase attendance at these events
- Support Cheerleaders as they come up with ideas for Spirit Weeks
- Provide positive support for all members of teams and organizations
Pure Cardinals Club
Sponsor: V. Fisher
The Pure Cards club is a club that focuses on activities that give students alternatives to underage drinking and drug usage. Some of the activities that we have done in the past include Friday Night Done Right parties after the football games, Youth Council meetings, CADCA conferences in Orlando, D.C., and Atlanta, Kindness Campaigns in November, retreats, Suicide Prevention Glow Walks, DAT Conferences, mentoring, social norm posters that hang up around school, basketball homecoming, and several others events that include opportunities for community service. Ms. Vanessa Fisher is the club sponsor, and we vote on officers each year. Club dues are $15 and include a club t-shirt.
Sportsman’s Club Mission Statement
Sponsor: M. Rogers and T. Hatchell
Our purpose will be to heighten the knowledge and safety involved in sporting activities while promoting good sportsmanship. To create and encourage an awareness of the need for wise use and proper management of our renewable wildlife resources and our earth’s natural resources. We will also create an interest for outdoor recreational opportunities for responsible sportsmen.

Student Council
Sponsors: Youngblood and V. Fisher
Student Council is a school-wide organization to promote involvement, ownership, leadership, and stewardship in school. This group is designed to give students a voice. Students will learn appropriate ways to affect change and develop their ability to interact with students and adults in the school and community. These students will represent the student body here at Mayfield High School. Student Council is open for any student to apply. After the students have turned in their name for consideration, teachers will vote on the council that is to represent the student body. Student Council members host an American Red Cross blood drive as well as the student/faculty basketball game.
